While ephedra containing dietary supplements were once touted as magic pills and many still search a lot to find Ephedra Diet Pills, do you know that most of these so called ephedra pills do not contain any ephedrine. You need to check out the label very carefully to understand the precise quantity of ephedrine you will be getting from a specific ephedra for sale product. So check out supplement facts printed on label.
Let us look at some examples to get a better idea. Suppose you have seen supplement facts like… Ephedra extract (40 mg). Now, can you tell by seeing this how much your diet pill is containing ephedrine? Well, no need to get confused. Actually, since FDA had imposed ban on dietary supplements with ephedrine, manufacturers have started to come up with such labeling that hardly tells you whether the specific product has ephedrine as an ingredient, leave aside the quantity.
Rule number 1
When you see such listing that doesn’t state what specific ingredients the product contains, you can assume that product doesn’t contain such ephedrine at all. Because by mentioning ephedra extract, manufacturer can mean any ephedra shrub among 40 ephedra species that contain no ephedrine or very less amount of ephedrine.
Rule No 2
When the product has clearly mentioned its ingredients and included ephedrine quantity in milligrams, you can clearly say that your diet pill has ephedrine with a specific dosage quantity.
Rule No. 3
There is another way to make sure that your diet pill contains required ephedrine. If you can see the name of “ephedra sinica” included on the list of ingredients. Ephedra sinica is a Chinese species of ephedra herbs (popular as ma huang). This is also considered as pure ephedra. Check the name of the species carefully as there can be some confusion. For example, take another species of Ephedra gerardiana which is found in Pakistan. This herb contains around 7000 ppm concentration, while pure ma huang contains around 12000 ppm. So, you can see here the considerable difference in ephedra concentrations between plants of two species. Likely, Ephedra navadensis (found in US), contains negligible amount of ephedrine.
How much actual quantity of Ephedrine will you be getting?
While the top and most reliable products will clearly state how much quantity you will be getting, if it is not stated clearly, you can safely assume that green tissues like leaves normally have 0.8% of alkloids in them. Again, after getting total alkloid volume, you need to calculate precise quantity of ephedrine. While doing so, the rule of thumb is to consider that almost 90% of total alkloids will be ephedrine. Let me explain you with an example…
Suppose a product says in its listing that it has 150 mg of ephedra sinica leaves per capsule then let us calculate…
Total quanity of alkloids = 0.8% OF 150 mg = 1.2 mg alkloids
1.2 mg alkloids = 90% of 1.2 mg = 1.08 mg of ephedrine.
Now cross check this calculation with the statement of listing which should be further mentioning as “each dose is standardized to contain certain amount of ephedrine”. If this doesn’t match then you can see that the listing is clearly misleading.
Also note that most of these dietary supplements contain metabolism boosters like green tea or caffeine that actually enhances the metabolism rate of body. By judging this parameter in addition to previously calculated ephedrine amount, you can judge yourself whether that product is going to be useful for you.
